Banks is named after Sir Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied Captain James Cook to Botany Bay. Established in 1987, Banks is the most southerly suburb of Canberra and is surrounded by the Rob Roy Nature Reserve, Mount Rob Roy and Big Monks Mountain. Its location provides the perfect playground for adventurers (paragliders and hang-gliders are popular at Big Monks), and nature lovers.
