Removalist Call-Out Fees Explained
Some companies may charge a depot-to-depot time frame when working out your quote. Essentially, you are being charged from the moment the truck leaves the depot to the moment it returns back to the depot after completing your home move.
Always ask how your fees are being charged before you accept your quote. It also pays to double-check how far away the depot is from your old home and the destination property too so you can work out exactly how much time to factor into your moving estimates.
Many companies work on a simple hourly rate. Some companies may have a preferred minimum booking time they will accept, such as insisting on a minimum of 2 hours or 3 hours. Other companies may not have a minimum hire time.
Per Minute Rates
A lot of removal companies will charge in full one-hour blocks. If moving your furniture and belongings from your old home to your new property takes 3 hours and 15 minutes, you could be charged for a full 4 hours. Check whether your chosen removal company will charge in increments of 15 minute blocks of time based on the hourly rate quoted. You'll only pay for the time you use without having to pay another full hour if the time goes over a little.
Call Out Fee
There are some companies that will charge a set call-out fee just to get the truck out of the depot. Of course, there are costs associated with running the truck and paying the moving guys. However, these things are usually factored into the hourly rate charged.
There are times when a removalist may offer a flat rate quote for the entire house moving service. This is more common with large moves that are estimated to take an entire day. You can avoid being stung by any hidden charges or fees by ensuring you receive a written quote from the removal company for your next home move. Be sure the quote is itemised and lists any fees that could be charged in unforeseen circumstances. When you can see clearly what fees and charges are likely, it’s much easier to work to a budget. You also won’t receive any nasty surprises at the end of the day once the move is complete. At Two Men And A Truck we believe in being transparent about all removal costs at the start – our Book & Quote form allows you to outline exactly what our clients require on the day so there is no ‘surprises’.
