What NOT to Pack into the Removalist Truck When Moving House

According to AFRA

BBQ gas cylinders will not be carried by a removalist unless you can provide a certificate from a Gas Cylinder Test Station certified by Standards Australia, stating that the cylinder has been purged.

Dangerous Goods

These dangerous goods should NOT be packed or transported by your removalist company:

  • Pool chemicals
  • Fireworks
  • Motor oil
  • Paint thinners
  • Car batteries
  • Paints
  • Petrol
  • Acid
  • Aerosols or lighter fluids

Some items that may be considered dangerous include:

  • Some household cleaning chemicals
  • Fertilisers
  • Weed killers

Sharp Objects

Additional care needs to be taken when packing sharp gardening items like chainsaws, axes, gardening clippers and pitchforks.

These sharp objects can injure you or cause damage to your other belongings.

Machinery and BBQs

Machinery like lawn mowers or whipper snippers can be packed into a removalist’s truck, however the oil and petrol needs to be emptied beforehand.

If you are moving a barbecue or heater run on LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas), double check with your removalist about transporting your LPG bottles. Sometimes a certificate from a Gas Cylinder Test Station certified by Standards Australia is needed before BBQ gas cylinders can be moved.

The same can be said for special items. Perhaps you have a baby grand piano up in your attic, or a huge Aga cooker in your basement, or even a Snooker table in the shed at the bottom of your garden? Whatever your special item requirements, a top removalist will plan this into your move. Nothing is too extreme to get the job done, removing windows and using pulleys and winches is not unheard of… so try us, we doubt you’ll surprise us!

Plants

There are some instances where your removalist may not be able to transport your plants, especially if you’re moving interstate (there may be quarantine restrictions on certain plants).  It is difficult to stack pot plants, so they will take up more room. There is also the potential problem of pot plants leaking water, which can damage your other belongings.

Important or Confidential Documents

Important documents like birth certificates, passports and bank statements should never be packed in the back of the moving truck but should be kept in a secure box and transported by you to avoid the risk of damage or identity theft.

Medication

Medication should always be transported by you to avoid the risk of it getting lost. It also ensures that you have easy and quick access to any medications that you may need during moving day.

Valuables

Our professional removalists take every necessary precaution to ensure that your belongings are safely packed and transported with as little damage as possible, however, you may have some extra valuable, sentimental or expensive items that should be moved in your car.
